The Black widow spider is largely known for their dark, shiny bodies with the characteristic red hourglass shape on the underside of the abdomen. They spin their irregular webs under woodpiles, along foundation walls, in vegetation, and may enter homes or structures on occasion. Their bit is dangerous; the venom is known to be one of the most toxic venom among all spiders in the world.

If I could give them a zero star, I would. I'm a fair person and will always give any company an honest evaluation and the benefit of the doubt, especially during Covid. We just moved to Nampa so I decided to try Barrier because they were close. When I called they offered me a starter trial and said I could cancel within the first 3 visits for any reason if I was not satisfied.
That sounded fair, so I said ok, lets try this. When the exterminator arrived he told me that my contract was locked in for 1 year and he knew nothing about a trial period. He said my 1 year contract could not be cancelled because I agreed to it when I signed up. Even though I told him to immidiately cancel the service because that was not what I was told, he said I was locked in and would be billed regardless if I cancelled or not!
He said I was locked in and responsible for 1 year even if he didn't do any work! I told him to leave, cancel the service, and that I would take up the matter with my credit card company! The next day I called Edge Pest Control and set up service with them instead. So far I have not been billed by Barrier, but will keep an eye on my statements just un case. Beware, dont trust Barrier, and go with anybody else but them. I believe they do their own positive reviews.

I'm not happy with this company. They were supposed to do 5 treatments in 2021. On more than one occasion they didn't show up after I took the time off work to allow them inside to only treat for spiders. When they did show up, their tech was only on-site a few minutes. I did have them come back out because of poor service and that didn't work either.
I never renewed their service, however they interrupt their vague service agreement, so that they can perform their treatments when they choose fit no matter how many months it takes. That's not fair or binding. Do you want to do business with a company attitude like this? They came to my home more than 5X times in 2021, they think they can still bill me for a $150 cancellation fee for an agreement that expired last year after and having paid for all the treatments that didn't work. We'll see if the courts think they treat consumers fairly.
Bottom line is I don't believe some of these reviews are real because their service is poor at best and was never punctual and I doubt I'm the only one. I should have checked them with BBB 1st! I'll control spiders myself rather than paying someone $89 to spend a few minutes at my home and not get the job the done.

So I have been receiving service from Barrier for about a year now, I have seen a grand total of 1 spider in my house in the last 6 months. My home is over 100 years old so when I move in there were a lot of bugs, Barrier did the initial treatment and I saw an increase in bugs right away but then they came back out about a month later and treated again, all the bugs I was seeing were either dead or dying.
It took about 3 treatments before I completely stopped seeing bugs and they did advise me that this would be the case due to the eggs hatching cycles. I called a few times in between appointments during the summer for wasp nest which they promptly removed at no extra charge. The technicians have been wonderfull and I always reach a live person when I call the office. Pricing is competitive and one of the lowest I have found, especially considering that they will come back out and redo the house for free when needed.

In my opinion, Barrier Pest Control is a Bait and switch operation. Theybtrll you ome thing and do another. They quote one charge and bill you for another. They do not give you the information about the charges or terms or explain all of the add on charges until the work is done. Their phone explanation is very brief. I didn't want to call a pest control company but the spiders here are unmanageable. When I first contacted this company I felt they listened to my concerns and my first service experience was good. I was told they spray from house to fence, which included the grass. I only wanted the perimeter of the house sprayed to limit exposure. Things changed dramatically after that visit.
I have Bernese Mountain Dogs and if you know about this breed, you know they already have an immune compromised system. I lost a dog recently to lymphoma, which you get from lawn products. Going forward from the first visit I advised them I no longer wanted the backyard sprayed. The photos are a bush next to my storage shed in the backyard. I've never sprayed them and never asked them to be sprayed.

I did ask if they would spray my shed, when I was told it was an additional charge of $10, I said no. They engaged services with my tenants when my tenants cannot pay. They send me the bill the property management company and then threatened to lien the property if it's not paid. My tenants say they misled them said it was $100 bill and then received a bill for 375. I was never contacted before they engage the services of my tenant. Why they would keep providing his service when the client is not paying the bill is beyond me.

TOTAL SCAM! The biggest PEST is the company itself. I made the huge mistake to hire them for a year and have called them time and time again to cancel any future yearly contracts. It is now well past the first year and they continue to come to the house at times I'm not home to spray, then I end up with a +$100 charge to my card. THIS IS NOT A PROPER WAY TO CONDUCT BUSINESS! I have seen several people posting this exact problem. the next step is to file a suit and possibly call a local news station so that others can avoid this nightmare SCAM.

**THE ONLY PEST IN YOUR HOME IS BARRIER PEST CONTROL** How many chances would you give a hair dresser? You'd give them one chance to fix it and then never go back. Well, I paid them TWICE and still not happy - now they want me to PAY them to stop coming. Buyer beware - if you aren't satisfied, they don't care. I was not impressed by the service at all with the first visit.
I still had lots of ants in my kitchen and beetles in our house. We contacted them and they said 'well thats normal because our system needs a second application to kill the egg cycle etc. honestly, i think that's BUNK, but I decided to trust them and they moved up my second service to deal with the issue. They said the tech would set special ant traps in the kitchen.
That was a few days ago. They never set the ant traps and Well, they missed a bunch of wasp nests on my back fence! Honestly, I work hard so I can pay $200 to NOT have to deal with them and peace of mind when the kids are playing in the back yard. I had to deal with the wasps nests right away, so I took some pictures first for proof and did it myself.
At this point we're in $400 bucks ish and I'm doing my own bug service. I let them know I don't want to work with them anymore and they keep offering a free retreatement - I don't know what that is going to do because the first 2 didn't do anything for us. No significant improvement in bugs at all. Anyway at this point I just don't want anymore service from Barrier Pest control - should be easy right. nope my contract is for one year or 3 more quartely treatments.
I wish that was true, but I'm not going to pay for something that doesn't work and people who aren't producing results for me. But, they want me to pay them $150 to NOT come back! Apparently $150 was the 'discount' I received on my first treatment. So I have to pay them the 'discount' back to get out of the other 3 quarterly treatments.
I don't want to do that, hell I didn't even ask for a refund - I just want to stop working with this company! Well, Barrier pest control, I PAID you for the opportunity to test out your services 2x and never again will you get a dime. SHAME ON ME FOR BEING A FOOL and SHAME ON YOU FOR BEING SHADY. Want a resolution customer service team? Just cancel my contract without a fee. My gift to you is payment for no service.

Such a great locally owned company to work with! Every year we get tons of Elm Seed Bugs along with all your other creepy crawlies and Barrier has done an excellent job of keeping them out of our home! Great customer service and always willing to come back out if any other issues arise! Definitely recommend them for anyone looking for pest control in the Treasure Valley!

I hope to God I can get out of this contract at some point in my life. The service was okay, but the last few times they came out they didn't bother to do the back yard (I know this because the gate is locked and even though I was inside the house they never rang the doorbell or called to ask me to open it). We called over a year ago asking to cancel the service.
They said we could pay for one more service or pay a cancellation fee as we were in contract. We said fine, one more service then cancel. A few months later we got another bill. We called, saying we want to cancel. They said either pay one more service or pay a cancellation fee. This has no joke happened THREE times now. I've never experienced anything like it, I'm sad and frustrated.
I've called, my husband has called. Not sure what to do at this point or how long this will go on, but figured I'd leave an honest warning in case it prevents anyone else this headache.

Full disclosure: I have not used Barrier. But I was ready to sign up based upon an industry recommendation until I got the customer agreement written by their lawyer. Barrier refuses to take any liability risk for damages to your property and transfers it all to the homeowner. I told them that I could not accept that statement as written and their rep then tried to tell me "what that means".
I told her that if they meant what she said why isn't it in writing? I am also concerned about the comments below that talk about going to collections if a contract is cancelled with unused treatments still under the contract. That tells me that they need the collections (for unperformed services) to keep their business solvent. And the price they quoted me was approximately 20% higher than a competitive price.

Benjamin and his service partner were extremely friendly, professional and informative. They gave me some pointers on how to manage our wasp problem aside from spraying for them and were super understanding of our backyard that needs some cleanup. *Update* This service is very good. Despite every attempt by my children to bring bugs into the house, my house remains bug free The rodent traps are very effective and easy to manage. Wife has nerve Damaged hands and manages it with no complications. It is also very pet friendly. Kittens are fine so far! Receptionist is kindly and the owner is very professional. The workers are clean and on time and very communicating. Recommend.

We first called Barrier last month to get an estimate of what was happening in our front yard. I was impressed that someone was able to come out same day in the afternoon. The gentleman, apologies for not being able to remember his name explained that we had voles. He took the time to answer all of our questions. Robert handled each of our 4 treatments and did an excellent job.
We had one hiccup regarding scheduling but with a simple phone call it was handled the next day. Then we decided on a quarterly pest service to keep the bees away. Kendall and Logan were professional and friendly, answered our questions. We look forward to our remaining services with Barrier!

I would not recommend them. We had them come after a call that my hard of hearing husband took and was under the impression they had been here before and were the ones family had set up for us. they sprayed and husband signed the service agreement which you could not read the small print at bottom. Paid for the supposedly reduced rate. Found out this was not the company we had come in the past.
Then they called and said we were due for another spraying cost $89 and we asked that just to cancel as we were using another service. They said we owed $150.supposedly discount for not fulfilling the agreement. for canceling as we had signed the contract. I asked for copy and was emailed and still could not read the wording. I said I thought there was miscommunication and were were seniors and thought the charge was unreasonable as they were not out of anything. After several calls and another billing, we paid the $150.00 as we pay our bills. Very unreasonable and not a fair business dealing.

We have been with Barrier for approx. Two months. The first spray they sent a young man who was very professional and knowledgeable and answered our questions. He was very polite. About a month after, we started noticing ants and spiders again. We called them and the receptionist set up another spray for the following week. She was also very polite. (We used Edge before and their customer support just felt fake nice and annoyed with us, so this was a nice change!) They came out the next week and sprayed again.
It has now been 3 or so weeks since then and I am seeing the "pincher bugs" and spiders out again. (This is actually not something that happened with Edge. We didn't see any critters after the initial spray.) We have to sell our house and move unexpectedly and I am really hoping that they honor our payment and continue services for the new owners. We paid a year in advanceI will update my review if they say otherwise because it would really suck to be out $439.

I had been a customer for years. They changed their payment processing vendor and then contacted me to update my payment info. Apparently in two months they lost it and then sent me a collections notice that they were going to take legal action against me for non-payment! Payment updated and service CANCELLED!

I contacted them regarding my gopher issues. The cost to me was $499.00. They did trap many gophers in the beginning but three months later I still have gophers. Their service for the first month was very good but things went downhill from there. Theirs Techs kept changing, they weren't sure where the last tech had placed traps, didn't have enough traps with them, weren't showing up when they told me they would and left holes everywhere that they had placed traps. I've hired another company that is charging me half the price that they did.

These people charge for services they don't perform. The last tech that came to our home to deliver "service, " was there for 7 minutes. He did not know I was home as I was in the phone. After he finished, I asked him about the services he performed. He printed out the list of items that were supposed to be delivered. He only sprayed the perimeter but nothing else. I called the company and they didn't budge off the bill. Needless to say my business has been placed with another company.

Had this company come out and spray for bugs. Was not happy with the results. Then ended up getting laid off from work. Called and respectfully asked to cancel my services and offered to pay the difference from the original offer. Was turned into collections. One of the owners mike said he could help me and offered to split the difference in the 170$ cancellation fee. Then decided it was too much trouble to call the collection agent and cancel. Basically I could help you but I won't. Think twice about using this company.

Every person who has serviced our home has been incredibly kind. The company is amazing too. I was not home when they came for the quarterly spray, so the inside did not get done. I emailed them and they had someone come out the following day to spray the inside. I do wish they had service on the weekends when people are not at work and able to be home for the service. I love that I can call anytime and have them come reapply product indoors if needed. Quick and definitely the cheapest I have found compared to other companies.

My family and I used Barrier for a few months however we still constantly had spider issues. We decided to cancel and was charged 99.00 dollars to cancel the service. I contacted them several times by phone and email. They never once returned a call or e-mail. To me this isn't customer satisfaction. This company is sneaky, be careful.

We have used Barrier Pest Control for the past two years and have been so happy with the service. Yes, we have had to call them back numerous times in the beginning, but because it is a new house in a farm area and on the river, some of the buggers put up quite a fight after being evicted! However, the past two visits I have not had to call back. I think that it has taken some time to get the pests under control but I believe that Barrier has won the battle. Am very, very happy with the prompt and courteous service. We will continue to recommend Barrier to our friends and neighbors!
